Read Hyundai Apprentice Technician Lloyd Dunwell returned from his recent work experience placement in Germany.
Lloyd, 18, was offered the placement as a reward for his hard work on the apprenticeship programme.
During the three week trip, Lloyd was based at a franchised dealership in Ludinghausen, West Germany. He was part of a team of six apprentices in the workshop each working alongside a qualified technician. Lloyd said: "I carried out the usual mechanical work which I'm used to but I also got experience in bodywork jobs like welding and filling dents. This is something I hadn't done before."
With the weekends free, the group of apprentices also had the opportunity to tour the local area and even take an over night trip to Amsterdam. The evenings were spent eating out and socialising with the other apprentices. He commented: "The guys I worked with were really friendly, and my boss even invited me to his home to spend time with him and his family which made me feel really welcome."
He enjoyed his first time in Germany so much he plans to go back for a visit, and after making such a good impression, his temporary manager has already invited him back.
Lloyd has big plans for his future career, and with the Master Technician qualification firmly in his sight he starts his Level 3 qualification soon and is on course to complete Hyundai's own training programme which will see him become a Certified Technician.
Lloyd is based at Hyundai Lincoln and spends four days learning practical skills from the Technician's there and he attends college one day a week to learn the theory.
