Am I eligible for a Hyundai Motability vehicle?

If you receive one of the following mobility allowances you may be eligible to join the Motability Scheme. To lease a car through Motability, you must have at least 12 months’ award length remaining.

  1. Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA)
  2. Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
  3. War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  4. Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

How many drivers am I allowed?

Up to two named drivers are included in the Scheme – these can be yourself, friends, family or carers. A third driver can also be added for an additional cost.

Named drivers should live within five miles of your address. Although Motability will consider requests to include drivers outside of this range where this is essential to support the customer’s mobility needs.

How do I order my new Hyundai?

Your Motability Specialist will guide you through the process to establish which model is most suited to your needs and discuss any adaptations that may be required. You will need to bring the following documents with you

  1. Your driving licence if you wish to drive
  2. Certificate of entitlement from either DWP or Veterans UK
  3. Proof of address (e.g. recent utility bill)
  4. Named drivers’ driving licence and consent. Named drivers must give consent, either in person by going with you when you place your order or by filling out a Driver Consent Form

Approximately two weeks after placing an order, you will be sent a Personal Identification Number (PIN) with a letter of acceptance which confirms your acceptance of the Contract Hire Agreement terms and conditions. Please remember to keep this safe as you need it to collect your vehicle.

What is it? It's called the New Vehicle Payment for cars and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVWheelchair Accessible Vehicle). It’s currently £750 and is available once per customer. You can choose to send this directly to your dealer to help towards your Advance Payment, or have this paid in full to you after you get your vehicle.

Am I eligible for the New Vehicle Payment? You’ll get this payment if you order your first vehicle before the end of 2024. If you're already on the Scheme and have not had your New Vehicle Payment yet, you'll get it whenever you get your next vehicle.

When is it paid? If you’re eligible you have two options for getting the New Vehicle Payment.

Motability can send this to your Read Hyundai dealer

This is to help towards the cost of your Advance Payment. If your Advance Payment is more than £750 you’ll need to pay the difference to your dealer, but if it’s less than £750 Motability will send you the difference after you get your vehicle.

Your Read Hyundai dealer will ask if you’d like to do this when you’re placing your order. If you’ve already ordered and would now like to put your New Vehicle Payment towards your Advance Payment, please speak to your Motability Specialist directly.

You can only use the New Vehicle Payment towards the cost of your vehicle's Advance Payment. You cannot use it towards the cost of adaptations or optional extras.

Motability can send this to you

If you do not ask for your New Vehicle Payment to go to your Read Hyundai dealer, Motability will send this to you in full within a few weeks of getting your new vehicle.

Will I still get the payment if I extend my lease? Yes, but you'll get it shortly after you get your next vehicle, not when you extend your lease.

What happens when I collect my new Hyundai?

The time it takes for your new Hyundai to arrive can vary depending on the model you have ordered. Your Motability Specialist will advise of the expected/estimated delivery times and will remain in contact until the collection date. Your Motability Specialist will also be in contact to advise of any delays to your new vehicle being delivered to your retailer outlet. When your car is ready, you or your appointee must be at the retailer outlet to sign for the new car. A home delivery will be arranged for customers ordering a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle.

Do I have to bring the car in for a service and/or MOT myself?

We do offer a collection and delivery service, subject to availability, within a certain mile radius of each Read Hyundai retailer.

Do I own the car at the end of the agreement?

Ownership of the vehicle remains with Motability Operations. At the end of your agreement you can either lease another car through the Motability Scheme, keep your current car longer by extending your lease or return your car and have your allowance reinstated.

What happens at the end of the agreement?

You can order your next car three months before the end of your agreement. Motability will send you a copy of ‘A guide to leasing your next car’ to help you through the final stages of your agreement.

Your Motability Specialist will also be in contact regarding your renewal. Where necessary, your Motability Specialist may be able to arrange a short term extension to your current lease.
