The way we use technology in our cars is changing rapidly. Drivers now expect the same levels of connectivity, personalisation and convenience from their vehicle that they experience from their smartphone and Hyundai is responding with its next-generation infotainment system: Pleos Connect.
Designed to make driving more connected, intuitive and personal, Pleos Connect represents an important step in Hyundai’s move towards the software-defined vehicle.
What is Pleos Connect?
Pleos Connect is Hyundai Motor Group’s new-generation infotainment platform, designed around a more flexible, app-based experience.
Built using Android Automotive OS, Pleos Connect brings a familiar, smartphone-inspired approach to the vehicle. Rather than simply connecting your phone to the car, the vehicle itself has a powerful software platform capable of running services and applications directly.
The result is an infotainment experience that can evolve over time through software updates.
A smarter, more intuitive interface
One of the key features of Pleos Connect is its flexible interface.
Drivers can personalise shortcuts and access frequently used functions more easily, while a redesigned interface makes it possible to view information such as navigation, media and vehicle information together.
This means less time spent navigating through menus and more of the information you need available at a glance.
Pleos Connect is also designed to support multitasking, allowing drivers to use different functions simultaneously. For example, you could have your route displayed while controlling your music without having to constantly switch between screens.
Meet Gleo, Hyundai’s AI-powered assistant
Pleos Connect also introduces Gleo, Hyundai’s conversational AI assistant.
Instead of relying solely on rigid commands, Gleo is designed to understand more natural language. This means you can interact with your vehicle in a way that feels more like having a conversation. For example, you can say “It’s hot”, which will turn down the vehicle temperature, instead of saying “Turn the air con on and set to 18 degrees”.
As the technology develops, Gleo is expected to become an increasingly important part of the Pleos Connect experience, helping drivers with navigation, information and vehicle functions.
Navigation designed around electric vehicles
For electric vehicle drivers, Pleos Connect offers particularly useful functionality.
The system is designed to incorporate charging into route planning and can take battery levels into account when calculating journeys. Drivers can also set preferences around the battery level they would like to have at charging stops or on arrival.
This can make planning longer EV journeys considerably easier, reducing the need to manually work out where and when to charge.
Apps built into your Hyundai
Another major difference is the potential to access applications directly through the vehicle.
Pleos Connect includes an App Market, allowing compatible apps and services to be added to the vehicle without relying entirely on a smartphone.
As the platform develops, this creates the possibility of a much broader range of entertainment, navigation and connected services becoming available inside the car.
Designed to get better over time
Perhaps one of the most important aspects of Pleos Connect is that it isn't designed to remain static.
Software updates can introduce improvements and new functionality over the lifetime of the vehicle. This means your Hyundai's infotainment system can continue to evolve rather than becoming outdated as quickly as traditional car technology.
It's part of Hyundai's wider move towards software-defined vehicles, where software plays an increasingly important role in the ownership experience.
What about Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?
If you're accustomed to using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, there's no need to abandon the smartphone experience you're familiar with.
Pleos Connect is designed to provide a powerful built-in experience while continuing to support smartphone connectivity, giving drivers flexibility in how they use their vehicle.
A new chapter for Hyundai technology
Pleos Connect is more than just a new touchscreen interface. It represents a change in the way Hyundai thinks about the technology inside its vehicles.
With a flexible interface, built-in apps, AI-powered assistance, advanced navigation and the ability to receive software updates, Pleos Connect is designed to make your Hyundai feel more like a connected device that can evolve with you.
As Pleos Connect rolls out across Hyundai's future vehicle range, we're likely to see even more features and services become available, helping Hyundai deliver a more connected, personalised and intelligent driving experience.
