The all-new Hyundai IONIQ 3 is set to bring stylish design, everyday practicality and all-electric driving together in one exciting package. But with two battery options, four specification levels and a range of optional extras to choose from, which version is right for you?
Whether you're looking for an affordable electric car for your daily commute, a longer-range option for family adventures or a more premium driving experience, our guide to the Hyundai IONIQ 3 breaks down everything you need to know.
One of the biggest decisions when choosing your new Hyundai IONIQ 3 is which battery size to go for. The model is available with a 42kWh battery or a larger 61kWh battery, offering different balances of driving range, performance and charging requirements.
The 42kWh battery is designed for drivers who want to enjoy the benefits of electric driving without necessarily needing the longest possible range. It is available exclusively with the Advance specification, making it the entry point into the IONIQ 3 range.
With a quoted combined electric driving range of up to 213 miles, it could be a great choice for everyday journeys, commuting and running errands around town.
The 42kWh version also offers slightly quicker acceleration than the larger-battery model, producing approximately 147PS and accelerating from 0–62mph in 8.7 seconds.
Charging times will depend on the charger used. Hyundai's technical figures estimate a 10–100% charge in around 6 hours and 20 minutes using a 7kW home wallbox, or approximately 29 minutes for a 10–80% charge using a compatible 350kW ultra-fast public charger.
For drivers who mainly cover shorter distances and can charge at home, the standard-range battery could provide all the range they need.

If you regularly travel longer distances or simply want more flexibility between charges, the 61kWh battery could be the better option.
It is available across all four IONIQ 3 specifications: Advance, Premium, Ultimate and N Line Evo. The larger battery delivers a quoted combined electric driving range of up to 308 miles, depending on the specification selected.
The 61kWh model produces approximately 135PS and accelerates from 0–62mph in 9.5 seconds, or 9.6 seconds in N Line Evo form. Although it has slightly less power than the 42kWh version, it retains the same maximum torque of 250Nm.
The larger battery naturally takes longer to charge fully using a home wallbox. Hyundai estimates around 8 hours and 35 minutes for a 10–100% charge using a 7kW charger. However, using a compatible 350kW ultra-fast public charger, a 10–80% charge is estimated to take around 30 minutes.
The quoted range varies between trim levels, with larger wheels and other specification differences affecting efficiency. The Advance 61kWh offers up to 308 miles, while Premium offers up to 303 miles, Ultimate up to 300 miles and N Line Evo up to 265 miles.
Which battery should you choose?
If most of your journeys are local and you want to keep the initial purchase price down, the 42kWh Advance is worth considering. If you regularly drive on motorways, visit family further afield or simply want additional range in reserve, the 61kWh battery offers greater flexibility.
Hyundai IONIQ 3 Trim Levels Explained: Advance, Premium, Ultimate and N Line Evo
Once you've decided on your battery, the next step is choosing your preferred specification. The Hyundai IONIQ 3 is available in four trim levels, each offering a different combination of technology, comfort, styling and convenience.
Hyundai IONIQ 3 Advance – Essential Electric Driving
The Advance is the entry-level specification, but that doesn't mean it skimps on the essentials.
It comes with a 12.9-inch PLEOS touchscreen with Bluelink connectivity, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker sound system and dual-zone climate control. You'll also benefit from a rear-view monitor, automatic headlights, a smart key, adjustable regenerative braking and a comprehensive collection of driver assistance and safety systems.
Outside, the Advance features 16-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting and heated, electrically adjustable door mirrors. Inside, practical touches include an adjustable boot floor, rear USB-C charging ports and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
It's available with either the 42kWh or 61kWh battery, making it the most accessible way to join the IONIQ 3 range.
Best for: Drivers who want an impressive range of everyday features and a choice of battery sizes without paying for additional luxury equipment.
Hyundai IONIQ 3 Premium – More Comfort and Convenience
Step up to Premium and you'll find a range of upgrades designed to make everyday driving that little bit easier.
The Premium specification adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic windscreen wipers with a rain sensor, a wireless phone charger and illuminated vanity mirrors. It also introduces a battery heating system with pre-conditioning, which can help prepare the battery for charging.
Exterior upgrades include privacy glass and power-folding door mirrors, while the interior gains rear LED courtesy lighting and front passenger seat-height adjustment.
A heat pump, exterior Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability and other features can be added through the optional EV Pack, subject to availability.
Premium is available with the 61kWh battery and offers a quoted combined range of up to 303 miles.
Best for: Drivers who want additional technology and convenience features, along with the longer-range battery.
Hyundai IONIQ 3 Ultimate – A More Premium Experience
The Ultimate takes the IONIQ 3 up another level, with more sophisticated lighting, additional comfort features and enhanced driver assistance technology.
It features 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12.9-inch PLEOS touchscreen with satellite navigation and Bluelink connectivity, and an upgraded exterior lighting package that includes intelligent front lighting. Dynamic welcome and escort lighting add to the premium feel.
Inside, the Ultimate gains heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient interior lighting, rear air vents and a rear centre armrest with cupholders. The front seats also feature electric lumbar support, while the suede and cloth upholstery gives the cabin a different look and feel.
Driver assistance is enhanced with Highway Drive Assist 2.0, helping support driving on suitable roads. A heat pump and exterior V2L capability are available as part of the optional EV Pack, while additional features such as a panoramic-style Vision Roof, premium relaxation seats and BOSE audio can be added through the relevant optional packs.
With its 61kWh battery and quoted combined range of up to 300 miles, Ultimate is aimed at drivers who want more comfort and technology in their electric car.
Best for: Those who value additional comfort, upgraded lighting and a more premium specification.
Hyundai IONIQ 3 N Line Evo – Sporty Styling and Technology
For drivers who want their electric car to make more of a statement, the N Line Evo brings a sportier appearance to the IONIQ 3 range.
The exterior stands out with 19-inch alloy wheels, N Line exterior styling, black badges and a gloss-black beltline. It also features a 14.6-inch PLEOS touchscreen with satellite navigation, a digital instrument cluster and a Surround View Monitor to help with manoeuvring.
The N Line Evo adds further technology, including a Blind Spot View Monitor, Parking Collision Avoidance Assist and Remote Smart Park Assist. The latter can help the vehicle move into or out of a parking space remotely in suitable conditions.
Inside, you'll find suede and cloth seat trim, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting and rear air vents. The optional Comfort Pack can add further luxury features, while the optional Design Pack introduces a Vision Roof and two-tone roof.
The N Line Evo uses the 61kWh battery and has a quoted combined electric driving range of up to 265 miles. Its larger 19-inch wheels and sportier styling make it the choice for those who prioritise appearance and extra equipment over maximising driving range.
Best for: Drivers who want sporty styling, an extensive technology package and a more distinctive look.
