Alfa Romeo celebrates a trio of award wins for both Giulia Quadrifoglio and Junior Veloce. Giulia Quadrifolgio was named ‘Best Performance Car 2024’ in the annual Cinch Car of the Year Awards and was named as one of the ‘Best New Cars of the Year’ by City AM. Junior Veloce was also named as ‘Car Of The Year’ by the Southern Group of Motoring Writers (SGMW) and was also runner-up in the Cinch ‘Best Electric Car’ category.
The SGMW has awarded its top accolade to the new Alfa Romeo Junior, bestowing it with the coveted title of Car of the Year. Ian Robertson, Chairman of the Southern Group of Motoring Writers, said, “Alfa Romeo’s new Junior is truly brilliant to drive. In Veloce form, it’s the best-performing Alfa this side of a Giulia Quadrifoglio. More than that, it’s the best-handling hatchback that Alfa has ever made, including the Alfasud. With the Junior, Alfa Romeo shows that it’s still possible to buy a compact car that’s fun to drive – a car you can get truly passionate about.”
Junior Veloce represents the epitome of Italian sportiness and has been developed to bring the Alfa Romeo DNA to the brand’s first electric car and was overseen by the same team who oversaw other iconic models including the 4C, 8C, Giulia Quadrifoglio and Stelvio Quadrifoglio. Powered by a 280hp electric motor delivering 345 Nm of torque, Junior Veloce is capable of up to 215 miles of range (WLTP) and can charge from 20-80% in less than 30 minutes using a 100kW rapid charger. It benefits from a Torsen limited-slip differential, 25mm lower suspension and upgraded brakes to give it best-in-class handling, road feel and overall driving dynamics. Junior Veloce features steering with a calibration ratio of 14.6 for enhanced feedback, lowered sports suspension by 25mm to improve cornering stability and an upgraded braking system with 380mm front discs and four-piston monobloc calipers for outstanding braking performance.
Cinch recognised the Giulia Quadrifolgio as its ‘Best Performance Car 2024’ at their inaugural awards. Sam Sheehan, Editorial Director of Cinch, commented on the Giulia win: “Launching an updated Giulia Quadrifoglio in the year that the new Junior came along reminded us of the best of Alfa Romeo’s past, while looking to the future. And leading with the Junior in hot Veloce form, Alfa emphasised how even a fully electric crossover needn’t tread too far from the much-loved Giulia’s turbocharged path. Both cars have bags of road presence while offering delicate handling to an enthusiast driver, but what sealed the deal for our awards was how they do that without compromising on day-to-day usability.”
Giulia Quadrifoglio is powered by a 2.9-litre 520hp turbocharged V6 engine in combination with a mechanical limited-slip differential derived from the Giulia GTA to optimise torque transfer and increase stability, agility and cornering speed. Use of ultra-light materials such as aluminium for the engine and carbon fibre for the transmission shaft, bonnet, spoiler and side skirts, as well as active aerodynamics, ensures best-in-class driving dynamics.
With City AM also recognising the Giulia Quadrifoglio in their ‘Best New Cars of the Year’, the paper’s Motoring Writer, Tim Pitt, said: “Now nine years old, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is aging like a robust Italian red. As other super saloons grow larger and heavier, weighed down by unnecessary technology, the simple pleasures of the 520hp, 1,650kg Giulia become ever more satisfying.
